Astrology of February 7th, 2017: Shared Beliefs

Mercury entered Aquarius in the wee hours of this morning, moving our thoughts and communication out of the realm of career and reputation and into a more social orientation that places our individual desires within the context of society as a whole.  Our minds are now more conscious of where we chafe against societal expectations, and how our own growth and evolution alters and enhances or detracts from the evolution of mankind as a whole.  We see the big picture, and are willing to apply ourselves to changing it, so social and political causes will be more firmly on our minds now, and our communication is likely to reflect this.  Since the classical and transcendental rulers of Aquarius, Saturn and Uranus, are both in fire signs and have been harmoniously connected through a Triangle of Potential with Jupiter for much of the past couple of months, whatever causes we choose to be mindful of now are likely to inspire our fervor and our dedication, but also our rebellion – we’re not just acting out of polite adherence to philosophy or high-minded ideals, but also because we’re fed up with the constraints that cage us and are willing to do whatever it takes to topple our oppressors, whether that means asserting ourselves more in group interactions or rallying others to the cause.

A few hours later the Moon in Cancer squared Venus in Aries, putting our sensitive emotions and instincts at odds with our more adventurous and individualist values and pleasures.  Since the Moon in Cancer prefers to operate from a safe and familiar space and Venus in Aries wants to strike out on her own, we may have found ourselves having to come to grips with the divide between safety and accomplishment.  We may also have found ourselves in conflict with family and other loved ones at this time, especially if we have felt as though our freedom isn’t being respected.  Since Venus governs affections, pleasures, wealth, and values, we may find our emotional responses jeopardizing our desired results in these areas, or at the very least leading to a hefty dose of discomfort for the morning.

Shortly afterward, the Moon in Cancer sextiled the North Node in Virgo, putting our need to attend to the details of our life’s purpose in a harmonious alignment with our feelings and our knee-jerk reactions, which helps us to keep our emotional reactions from straying too far from a path in keeping with our higher purpose.  Which is a blessed spot of helpfulness sandwiched between the morning’s Moon/Venus square and the early afternoon’s square between the Moon in Cancer and Mars in Aries.  With both of the gendered personal planets in discordant relations with the Moon today, we are likely to bump up against issues of gender relations and sexuality, particularly in relation to those we are close to.  Mars governs our energy and aggression, and squared to the Moon increases the likelihood of our tempers turning explosive, especially from his vantage point in “me first” Aries, one of the two signs that he rules.  Frustration is a big factor here, and we may find our patience wearing thin as the afternoon wears on.

Thankfully, by nightfall the Moon in Cancer trines Neptune in Pisces, and we can finally succumb to our feelings, taking refuge in the whatever place feels safest to us for the night and letting our sensitivity show through to the right people.  We may choose to escape reality for a little while, whether through film or other forms of storytelling, or through fantasy, or imbibing something comfortingly intoxicating.  Since the trine is the most supportive of astrological aspects, chances are that we won’t let our pursuit of fantasy get too far out of control tonight, just far enough to soothe our hearts and souls for the time being.  This is also a good night for dreaming and creating art or music or poetry, and more spiritually-minded folk may find solace with others who share their beliefs at this time.
