Astrology of February 8th, 2017: A Need for Compassion

This morning the Moon in Cancer opposes Pluto in Capricorn, heightening our instinctive awareness of the complexity in our lives, and intensifying our emotions in the process, particularly with regard to our goals and the ongoing changes in the status quo.  Our business sense is likely to be heightened, and chances are that we will feel extra protective of those we consider our own.  However, we need to be careful about power plays and jockeying for position now, as such activity is likely to turn against us now.

Toward midday, the Moon in Cancer squares Uranus in Aries, adding a sense of agitation to the emotional mix.  Sudden and unexpected changes are afoot, and we would do well to be cautious and mindful of the heightened potential for accidents at this time.  Our moods are likely to turn on a dime, and since this is an unconscious influence most people aren’t going to be aware of what is driving their mood swings now, so it helps to have extra compassion for ourselves and others during this upheaval, knowing that this too shall pass.  Thankfully, like all lunar aspects, this is a brief influence, though the consequences of our impulsiveness during this time could still be long-lasting.

Thankfully, any ruffled feathers get some much-needed smoothing over a short while later, as the Moon in Cancer trines Chiron in Pisces, helping our emotions to process our hurts and gain wisdom from our less pleasant experiences today.  This is another reason to apply that compassion mentioned above, as caring for others during this time helps us to understand our own feelings and struggles better, and gain some sense of relief from our own hurts that we don’t know how to remedy on our own.  Activities that emphasize connection, especially on spiritual levels, can really help us all today in ways that we might not normally recognize but that will be deeply felt this afternoon, with potential reverberations in our life long after.

This is because whatever we are feeling is about to be magnified by the Moon in Cancer squaring Jupiter in Libra, who magnifies whatever he touches and governs our faith, our optimism, and our luck.  While Jupiter’s influence is a benevolent one, he can blow things out of proportion, and whatever we are feeling at the time of his contact with the Moon is definitely going to be heightened.  Plus, since Jupiter is part of an ongoing Triangle of Potential with Uranus and Saturn, any emotional jostling of his socially-conscious and peacemaking urge in Libra at this time is likely to have a part to play in the larger picture that we are continuing to be made aware of, especially in relation to partnerships and our deeper relationships, as well as our interactions with society at large.

The Moon/Jupiter square begins a lengthy void-of-course period that lasts for nearly twelve hours, which is just as well after the frenetic emotional pace of this morning and afternoon.  Tonight is a good time to tend to the home fires, take comfort in the company of family and friends, and take care of our immediate environment, remembering that this is a time to fall back on routine and let ourselves drift in our healing instincts, emotions, and dreams.

(All aspect times are calculated for Pacific Standard Time.  I tend to speak in broad terms when I reference time on this blog, referring to time-frames like “morning” or “afternoon” rather than specific times, since I still have a lot of friends on the East Coast who read these posts and I’d like them to be pertinent to those friends as well as folks here on the West Coast.  Readers from further abroad will need to adjust time-frames accordingly.)
