Astrology Update, March 16th, 2017: Power Within

Today is a relatively quiet day in astrological terms, with only two lunar aspects against the backdrop of the ongoing Jupiter/Uranus opposition.  That said, we are likely to already be feeling some of the effects of tomorrow’s Sun/Saturn square adding a sombre note to our consciousness, and so would do well to take advantage of today’s benevolent influences to shore ourselves up for the harder experiences to come.

This morning the Moon in Scorpio trined Neptune in Pisces, giving our feelings a lovely view from the rose-coloured-glasses department of the Universe.  Yes, we may have not had the most realistic view of our world as a result, but we’ll get plenty of reality tomorrow – today it’s all right to enjoy a more sympathetic and kindly perspective.  This was a good morning for day-dreaming (or sleep in late!), a good time for creative endeavors to take advantage of Piscean visions, and for strengthening our spiritual practice with Scorpionic focus and clarity to navigate the Neptunian mist.  The Moon in Scorpio gives us the persistence to delve into mysteries and Neptune in Pisces dangles the fairy lights in front of those mysteries to draw our attention there in the first place.  It’s the perfect combination for spinning stories that both delight and teach, or for finding the missing piece of the puzzle that diagnoses the previously undiagnosable ailment (Neptune governs illness, after all).  The fantastic mysteries of our lives aren’t simply in mythical realms – there is plenty to be explored today in medicine, oceanic science, psychology, chemistry, microbiology, and of course the deepest mystery of all, politics.  😉

Late tonight the Moon in Scorpio sextiles Pluto in Capricorn, increasing the likelihood of political revelations coming to light, though just as easily shoring up entrenched political power.  Regardless, our emotions and instincts tonight are attuned to the workings of power tonight, and we are less likely to find ourselves butting our heads against what we cannot change, more likely to find the previously hidden path between the powerful forces in our lives.  Our ambitions and long-term goals get a boost from our focus and persistence now, as well as our intuitions regarding social hierarchies.  Our emotions are also likely to be more intense tonight, and we will not be satisfied with surface interactions, preferring experiences that delve into the deeper workings of things.  Interpersonal relationships may get some much-needed emotional understanding now, as this aspect generates more powerful experiences between us and inner motivations are revealed.  Even though this is a harmonious aspect, still there can be an air of compulsiveness at this time, and we may find ourselves so focused on one particular obsession that all other considerations drop by the wayside.  This is a good time for projects and yes, more spring cleaning, as well as other repairs and actions that shore up our own personal seat of power, though such actions are still most likely to succeed if they benefit more than one.  Tonight, we may learn lessons about both our own power and that which we share with others, and find that what power we could hold over others is far outweighed by the power within that joins us.

Astrology Update, March 15th, 2017: Operatic Intensity

Early this morning the Moon in Libra sextiled Saturn in Sagittarius, aligning our socially harmonious instincts with our disciplined and patient expression of our beliefs.  Our ability to see the big picture during this time was aided by our desire for peaceful interactions with others, and our relationships strengthened by our philosophical views, setting the day off on steady and reasonable footing.  This started a void-of-course period lasting for a few hours, making sticking to routine the best course for the morning.

A little later in the morning Mercury in Aries trined Black Moon Lilith in Sagittarius, helping us to consciously understand and communicate some of the unconscious wisdom we have been gaining in relation to our beliefs and social values, and to learn more about ourselves and others in the process.  Our willingness to expand our views is enhanced at this time, and we are more conscious of the shadow side of our philosophies now, and more capable of making use of that consciousness to benefit both ourselves and others.  We are likely to be forthright and even aggressive in our communications today, and may find more enjoyment in exploring ideas and communication now.  This influence lasts throughout the day, making this an excellent day for learning in general, but especially for learning about the spiritual beliefs and philosophies of other cultures, particularly those beliefs that relate to women.

Late this morning the Moon enters Scorpio, giving us greater emotional focus and intensity.  We are likely to talk less about what we feel even as we feel more, and we are more likely to experience extremes in our emotions now, even as we keep tighter control on our reactions.  This Moon position enhances our ambition and drive, so we may feel motivated to accomplish more during the next couple of days.  We may also find ourselves being more observant, able to ferret out hidden details and secrets that we had previously overlooked.  Our standards are higher now, our ideals brought to the forefront, and we may find those around us have difficulty living up to our expectations.  We may be more distrustful now, more concerned with the degree to which others have control over us or portions of our lives, and may find ourselves engaged in power struggles during this time as a result.  We are likely to be more self-reliant now, with greater capabilities for manifesting what we desire, and we will not be easily dissuaded from our goals.

That Scorpionic persistence serves us well in relation to our karmic path this afternoon as the Moon in Scorpio sextiles the North Node in Virgo, combining Scorpio’s talent for manifestation with Virgo’s attention to detail.  Scorpio is a highly spiritual sign with a greater capability for understanding the workings of our karma, so now we are likely to throw ourselves wholeheartedly into whatever activity will gain us the greatest progress on our karmic path, and whatever experiences will teach us the skills we need to express our souls’ truth.

Tonight the Moon in Scorpio opposes Mars in Taurus, intensifying our drive even further.  Mars is the classical ruler of Scorpio, with his influence on this day already heightened as a result of the trine between Mercury in Aries (the other side that Mars rules) and Black Moon Lilith.  That trine combined with tonight’s Moon/Mars opposition may well give an operatic note to our communications tonight, as both of these aspects amplify intensity.  Oppositions create awareness of the balance required to fully express the energies of both opposing forces.  In this case, the Moon in Scorpio has our emotions and instincts experiencing the force of Scorpionic intensity and spiritual depth, while Mars is expressing his force in the material and bodily realms.  Our sexual drive in particular may be increased at this time, as well as our ambition and aggression, and tempers may flare tonight as a result.  Those of us who are able to navigate these realms successfully may find our personal magnetism and our ability to influence others increased, but overt power plays are not likely to fare well at this time – a balance must be found between the bluntness of Mars in Taurus and the subtlety of the Moon in Scorpio, or we may find ourselves see-sawing between our ideals and our baser desires.  This is a good night for the arts, theatre and performing arts especially, but also any activities favoring sensual enjoyment, especially those that combine sensory experience with spiritual and emotional insight.  Regardless of venue, we are driven to seek powerful experiences tonight, and whatever may happen, it is likely to be memorable.

Astrology of February 18th, 2017: Confronting Illusions

We start the day with the Moon void-of-course in Scorpio, afloat in a sea of deep emotion and unconscious knowing.  The Sun entering Pisces in the early morning hours further emphasizes the dreamlike state of the void-of-course period, and we should exercise some caution when starting the day in this floating state.  Now is not the time for crucial decision-making or bold moves, and we should stick to our routines as much as possible until the Moon enters Sagittarius toward mid-day.

Less than an hour later the Moon squares the Sun, pitting active, idealistic, emotions and reactions against a conscious desire for both more connection and more escapism.  Our core selves are more sensitive under a Pisces Sun, more compassionate and spiritual, and more in-touch with our feelings, both emotional and sensory.  On the plus side, both Pisces and Sagittarius are ruled by benevolent Jupiter, so both carry a certain degree of optimism, but the Sagittarian Moon’s tendency to rush in where angels fear to tread may create excess stress for the more gentle side of our consciousness being awakened by the Piscean Sun.  Our emotions and instinctive reactions under this Moon may be spoiling for a (thoroughly justified) fight on ideological grounds, but our Piscean consciousness has been around the block for a few lives and seen how that tends to end, and therefore wants us to find a less combative solution.  Of course, Pisces is notorious for allowing the desire to help others to turn us into doormats, so the peaceful approach isn’t automatically the right move either.  This is the beginning of the last quarter of our current lunar cycle, and this square challenges us to find the means of disseminating the intentions that we set at the New Moon in Aquarius and brought to fullness at the Full Moon and eclipse in Leo, in a way that shoots straight to the truth of the matter (Sagittarius) while having compassionate perspective (Pisces) and combining head and heart with the wisdom and will toward social and internal growth that (hopefully) can keep us from repeating past mistakes.

A very short time later the Moon conjuncts Black Moon Lilith in Sagittarius at the critical 0 degree of that sign, the space in which all of the sign’s possibilities are held, the first lessons ready to be learned.  Black Moon Lilith has been likened to a female Mars, focused, driven, and sexually aggressive.  Hers is an instinctive wisdom, the place where the Moon is closest to the Sun (and furthest from the Earth), so it is intriguing to see the Moon conjuncting her so soon after the Sun/Moon square, visiting her place of deep knowing that has the capacity to bridge the gap between two, the place where the personal and the political meet.  Here we may meet our own most destructive illusions, so that we may confront them, move through them, grow past them.  Black Moon Lilith has a powerful effect on relationship dynamics, and we may find an edge to our emotions surrounding our more significant relationships during this time that challenges our ability to be both vulnerable and centered in our own power with each other.

This series of challenges continues with the Sun in Pisces squaring Black Moon Lilith in Sagittarius in the early evening, stretching out the effects of the previous two aspects and forcing us to see where our focus and our instincts are leading us, and how that conflicts with our desire to escape from the consequences of the ideologies we have immersed ourselves in, particularly those chosen unconsciously, accepted unquestioningly.  Our souls’ passions are brought to the surface, but through the lens of the Piscean Sun we may still see only what we want to, resisting the wisdom that both our watery consciousness and fiery instincts can offer if we can just find a means of integrating them both.  Pisces is symbolized by two fishes tied together at the tails, swimming in opposite directions, a visual key to the sign’s ability to navigate paradox.  If any sign can do it, Pisces can.  With this string of challenging aspects, we’ll need all of the wisdom Pisces can muster.

Especially since it’s not over with the Sun/Black Moon Lilith square, as a short while later the Moon in Sagittarius squares the North Node in Virgo, bringing our emotions that are burning with the fire of Lilith’s confrontational wisdom to bump heads with our karmic purpose for some potential course-correction of the painful-learning-experience variety.  North Node in Virgo is a bit detail-obsessed, while the Moon in Sagittarius is far more enamoured of the big picture and inclined to rush through the messy details.  And driven instinctually toward soul-reforging experience by Black Moon Lilith, we may find ourselves so emotionally consumed that any encounter with the Virgoan desire for perfection becomes a dizzying whirlwind of overwhelm, or a chain around our necks, rather than the steady growth process that our life lessons have been favoring during this past year.

On the plus side, if navigated successfully, today promises a whole lot of potential for growth on a deep, soul level.  On the downside, this string of hard aspects is likely to be hard on us on many levels, so lots of self-care is likely to be needed at the end of it all (and during as well).  Our path is a rocky one today, but our climbing skills will benefit from it.

Astrology of February 17th, 2017: Depth and Focus

This morning the Moon in Scorpio squares Mercury in Aquarius, putting our communication in the crosshairs of our emotions and instincts that are currently in the realm of a sign notorious for its silence.  This aspect pits our heads against our hearts, and our attention to social concerns is likely to suffer for it.  Since the Moon governs our unconscious reactions, we are likely to react without thinking, and since Scorpio is known for its sting, we may find ourselves lashing out now only to regret the consequences later.  Worse still, we may be able to sit back and watch ourselves behaving unreasonably, and feel as though we are powerless to stop our own reactions.  Or, in keeping with the Scorpionic theme of power vs. powerlessness, we may find ourselves the target of someone else’s tirade that we are ill-equipped to defend ourselves against.

Thankfully, toward mid-day we get a helpful boost of power in dealing with the powers-that-be via the Moon in Scorpio sextiling Pluto in Capricorn.  With our willpower and our instincts aligned, we are likely to be able to dive deep into the heart of situations whose inner workings have previously been a mystery to us, and we can use the information learned to our benefit in our dealings with authority figures and career matters so long as we do not abuse it – whatever we do at this time is best not done for purely selfish ends, or it is likely to backfire on us.  We may also find ourselves ending situations that not longer serve us but that we previously did not have the will to remove ourselves from.  Of course, Moon/Pluto interactions tend to amp up the intensity of our emotions, and that is more likely with the Moon in Scorpio, which Pluto is the transcendental ruler of.  Still, the sextile is a gentle aspect, so chances are that this will give focus and depth to our reactions, and that has the potential to help us get a lot done today.

That said, this aspect marks the beginning of a lunar void-of-course period lasting for nearly 24 hours, so we are going to need to harness the Moon/Pluto sextile’s focus to tend to routine matters only – no big initiatives or important meetings or contracts should be dealt with during this time.  The void-of-course period is a good time to tend to cleaning up our environment, organizing, sorting, editing, and otherwise putting things in place, as the dreamy state that it induces helps us to instinctively see what is off-kilter around us.

That dreamy quality is likely to increase later tonight, as the Moon in Scorpio trines Chiron in Pisces.  We may find ourselves commiserating with our fellows at the local watering hole, as Chiron governs learning from our pain and Pisces tends to be a drinking sign, but since this is a supportive trine aspect we are less likely to see the self-destructive side of this urge (unless our unconscious determines that we really need that lesson!).  We may find ourselves wanting to lose ourselves in fantasy, and perhaps this is just what is needed tonight to help sort our feelings out – this is a good time to forget our troubles with the help of a good book or movie.  We are best off spending this evening with friends close to home who we can confide in (or sit quietly with if our Scorpio Moon isn’t feeling chatty), or if we’re not feeling social spending our evening in whatever activity will most help us to work through the more mysterious side of our emotions.  This is definitely a good night for creative endeavors, spiritual endeavors, and intimate time spent with those we trust.

Astrology of February 16th, 2017: Into the Deep

The day starts with an early morning sextile between the Moon in Scorpio and the North Node in Virgo, putting our emotions and instincts in a supportive alignment with our karmic purpose.  The North Node shows us the skills that we need to cultivate in this life, and this aspect helps our instincts to guide us toward what we need to follow this path, giving us focus that allows us to become aware of and attend to all of the necessary details and deeper connections that we might not otherwise notice.

The big astrological news of the day is the sextile between Mercury in Aquarius and Mars in Aries that happens toward mid-day.  Because this is a planetary influence, we are likely to feel the effects of this aspect throughout today and into tomorrow, making this a great time to harness our communicative powers to take action on the causes that matter most to us, both personal and social.  We are likely to be more driven to communicate, and our words have more force behind them now, but because this is a harmonious alignment people are also more likely to accept what we have to say, and those of us driven to lead will be more likely to make our case effectively for what we think needs to happen in service of our goals.  That said, if others are not on board with our plans, we’re not going to be too interested in working with them, especially if we think we can accomplish more on our own.  We are independently motivated right now, and will only go along with the group if we think it suits our own purposes.  That said, with Mercury in socially-minded Aquarius, chances are that we will find group purposes helpful to our own today.

Tonight, however, our instincts are likely to lead us into more solitary directions, or more intimate ones.  The deep emotions of the Scorpio Moon will find themselves getting a romantic and spiritual boost from Neptune in Pisces via a flowing trine that offers the best of Neptune’s spiritual vision and Piscean sensitivity in tonight’s instinctual pursuit of intense feeling and understanding of the mysteries in our lives.  While Neptune can sometimes lead us in the direction of escapism and fantasy, tonight’s trine gives us a greater potential for finding spiritual truth through exploring, expanding, and in some cases dissolving our boundaries, and our emotional connections are strengthened by blending the Scorpionic desire to get to the bottom of a mystery with Piscean intuition and psychic capability.  We may find ourselves resolving old and previously buried issues as a result, and whether waking or sleeping our dreams tonight are likely to be revelatory.
