Astrology of February 6th, 2017: Luck and Limitations

In the early morning hours today the Moon in Gemini trined the Sun in Aquarius, creating a state of flow and harmony between our unconscious and conscious awareness to start the day, increasing our desire for knowledge and our interest in the world around us, as well as heightening our social awareness.  A few hours later the Moon in Gemini sextiled Uranus in Aries, likely adding to the quick pace of the morning for those of us on diurnal schedules.  Since this was a harmonious aspect, it’s not likely to have rushed beyond our capabilities to enjoyable handle, and definitely gave those who could take advantage of the increased emphasis on self-direction an opportunity to shine.

The Moon in Gemini squared Chiron in Pisces toward mid-day, which may have ended up making some of us feel a bit abraded and frustrated or hurt, typically as a result of communication missteps resulting from failed attempts at connection, and those of us with ongoing health problems could have found ourselves on the wrong end of the Moon in Gemini’s frenetic pace, feeling burnt out and exhausted, and unable to keep up.

This is followed by the Moon in Gemini trine Jupiter in Libra, giving our emotions an expansive, social tone, so for those of us who managed to successfully navigate through that patch of burn out, this aspect likely has helped us to carry forward the active tone of the morning.  Even for those to whom the Moon/Chiron square proved to be more of a stumbling block, the Moon/Jupiter trine is likely to have been a blessing in getting us back on the horse for the afternoon, helping us to understand instinctively how our thoughts and communication enhance or detract from our good fortune in life, and giving us an opportunity to magnify our own optimism and with it our statistical probability of having a better life.  People who are “lucky” typically don’t have more good experiences than others – they just have more experiences, period.  They get out and try more, are more curious and interested in life (qualities that Gemini exercises in spades), and Jupiter today was happy to help encourage us in that direction.

This was followed by Mercury in Capricorn sextiling Black Moon Lilith in Scorpio in the early afternoon, helping us to extend our communication to normally hidden or taboo subjects without incurring negative consequences to our goals and reputations in the process, and potentially even enhancing them.  This made this afternoon a great time for ferreting out secrets that could be useful to us, though given the continuing proximity of Pluto in Capricorn it would be best if the use we make of this knowledge benefits more people than just ourselves.

The Moon in Gemini opposing Saturn in Sagittarius this afternoon may put a damper on things, increasing our feelings of limitation and insecurity, giving heightened prominence to the obstacles in our way, particularly when it comes to communication, learning, and social interactions.  Of course, we may also take these things more seriously and apply more discipline in these areas, and if we do, we will become aware of the need to balance our desire to learn and communicate with the need to pace ourselves and exercise caution in what we do with the information we obtain.  Since this aspect begins a lunar void-of-course period, it makes sense to fall back on our routines this afternoon and evening, and not begin any bold new ventures at this time.  This can also be a good time to have a few friends over, especially the kind who don’t mind a little seriousness and can help us ease our frustrations with some good camaraderie.

Later tonight the Moon enters watery Cancer, encouraging us to cozy up at home with family and friends, and give ourselves the time and space that we need to process our changing moods.  The Moon rules Cancer, so our emotions, instincts, and unconscious awareness are in their place of power tonight.  This is a good night for dreaming, so those of us who like to work with dream knowledge should be sure to keep something by our beds to write down what we remember in the morning.  This lunar placement makes house and home priorities tonight and over the next couple of days, and hones our business sense and intuitions, so being conscious of questions relating to these areas before going to bed tonight is likely to yield new insights.

Astrology of January 16th, 2017: Applying Wisdom

 Intensity - Dark

It’s been a couple of days since I’ve posted here, mainly because the combination of cooking for the midnight Aether Revolt MtG Pre-Release event at The Temple Games on Friday night/Saturday morning and then taking the train to New York to read Tarot for the Chapel of Sacred Mirrors Full Moon Gathering on Saturday night with numerous readings the following day left little time for writing (though I did get a new divinatory drawing done at Art Church on Sunday, which unfortunately will have to wait until mid-week when I get home to my scanner to be unveiled).

Meanwhile, the heavens have been fairly benign over the weekend, with no planetary activity on either Saturday or Sunday.  Saturday saw three supportive Lunar aspects to the outer planets in the current Triangle of Potential (Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus) beginning a lengthy void-of-course period followed by the Moon entering Virgo and then shortly thereafter trining Virgo’s ruler Mercury, which gave a good mental emphasis to the night with attention to detail and process.  Sunday had only three notable Lunar aspects, with the Moon conjunct to the North Node in the wee hours of the morning and then opposing Neptune and Venus in Pisces in the afternoon and evening.  The North Node conjunction set the tone for the day with an emphasis on the process of growth in connection with our karmic path, while the opposition to Neptune and then Venus in Pisces emphasized intuitive connections and possibly a bit of escapism after whatever truths that North Node conjunction may have revealed earlier.

I’m now on the train from New York heading back to Rhode Island for a couple more days before I fly home to the Pacific Northwest, so I’ve got a little time to write about the astrological weather for the day before I change trains, which is good because it’s a fairly active day.

The Moon in Virgo started things out this morning with a trine to Pluto in Capricorn, which gave our emotions and instincts some intensity and drive.  Moon/Pluto connections can heighten the risk of control issues rearing their ugly heads, but the trine aspect creates ease and flow, so even where our inner control-freak showed up this morning chances are that it actually helped to get things done and done right rather than bogging down in power struggles.  Several hours later the Sun in Capricorn sextiled Black Moon Lilith in Scorpio, adding to the intensity of the morning, but again in a supportive manner, adding focus and wisdom from hidden sources to the mix.

Shortly thereafter the Moon in Virgo opposes Mars in Pisces, and things may start to get a bit testy as a result – under this influence our emotions and instincts become aware of our more aggressive side, though with Mars in Pisces that aggression is more likely to be passive-aggressive.  Tempers may flare, especially when our desire to go with the flow bumps up against unconscious perfectionism.  With the Moon in Virgo opposing Chiron in Pisces very soon thereafter, flaring tempers may turn to hurt feelings and reveal old wounds in need of healing.  While the fact-finding and critical side of the Moon in Virgo may make us disinclined to be sympathetic to the seemingly impractical needs of old wounds right now, still Virgo is very conscious of processes of growth and healing, and even if the timing seems off, the progress that can be made by working through these issues now is not something to be taken lightly.

This afternoon, the Moon in Virgo squares Saturn in Sagittarius, and now perhaps the intensity and aggravation and hurt we’ve been working through may get bogged down in depression, insecurity, and even anxiety or fear.  The best way that we can navigate this is to focus on working steadily, accepting our limitations and not despairing when they necessitate imperfect results, and recognizing that whatever dark moods may be generated by this aspect shall soon pass.

This evening Mars in Pisces conjuncts Chiron in Pisces, so that our drive and aggression is confronted by our injuries and pain, and there can be some rough lessons involved, especially for those of us eternally pushing ourselves to be superhuman.  This is a time to be extra careful in the use of our bodies, particularly for athletes, and it would be a very good idea to tend to our health tonight.  Chiron may reveal our pain but he also gives us the capacity for learning from it and passing that wisdom on to others, so it’s definitely worthwhile to harness the Virgo Moon’s attention to detail and concern for health during this time.  And with the Moon sextiling Black Moon Lilith in Scorpio toward the end of the night, this is a good time to uncover hidden causes for our weaknesses and sensitive spots, and glean all the wisdom that we can from this time.

The day ends with a trine from the Moon in Virgo to the Sun in Capricorn, creating greater ease and flow between our conscious and subconscious awareness, which increases our capacity to understand the lessons of the day and apply the wisdom gained.  It may have been a rough day emotionally, but not without its rewards.

Astrology of January 7th, 2017: Sympathy and Acceptance

After the intensity of last night, we can all use some support from the Universe, and today has been giving us a string of aspects to do just that.

The morning started out early with the Moon in Taurus sextile Neptune in Pisces, giving us emotional grounding in harmony with our dreams and ideals.  Of course, that may have gotten the morning off to a slow start for many of us, but given that it’s a weekend in winter, that may be just what the doctor ordered – a chance to rest and recharge for a bit, and spend some time with our imaginations while Taurean pragmatism keeps our emotions grounded and ensures that we don’t get completely lost in the ether.

This afternoon the Moon in Taurus sextiles Mars in Pisces, making our energy as soft and dreamy as our imaginations, and continuing the likelihood of this being a lazy day.  That said, this is a great time for creative pursuits, as well as time spent with loved ones, as Pisces is sympathetic while Taurus enjoys good food and good company, and both are artistically inclined, whether creating or appreciating.

This evening becomes a bit less dreamy and briefly more inclined toward getting things done, though still at Taurus’ slow and steady pace, as the Moon trines first Pluto and then the Sun, both in Capricorn, giving us a dose of Capricornian dedication and the Plutonian urge toward transformation.  The Moon/Pluto trine may also amp up emotional intensity a bit, but in a far more practical and less destructive way than with some other sign/aspect combinations.  Still the Moon/Sun trine sets off a void-of-course period that lasts until tomorrow afternoon, so any desire for action should be channeled into strictly routine activities, finishing up old business or (more likely) enjoying small social gatherings.  With a sextile from the Moon in Taurus to Chiron in Pisces near the witching hour, late-night conversations may turn confessional, a time to uncover old hurts with an eye toward healing, and we are more likely to be both sympathetic and able to accept the truths we discover in this process.

Astrology of December 18th, 2016: Clearing Away Clutter

I woke up today just before the Moon in Leo trined the Sun in Sagittarius.  Lately I’ve been finding that my sleep patterns seem to be altering themselves according to what’s going on in the sky.  One might think that this is some kind of self-fulfilling prophecy, except that typically I write the day’s astrological analysis on the day in question and don’t closely examine Lunar aspects until that day, and while I certainly look at major aspects in advance, my tendency with those is to see them in the context of the larger pattern, slowly moving into place, so I don’t usually think of them in advance in relation to a particular day.  So, I’m not certain why I’m seeing this correlation of my sleeping/waking cycles with astrological patterns, and I definitely need to do more observation before drawing any conclusions.

In the meantime, the Moon in Leo trining the Sun in Sagittarius certainly gives a bright feeling to the morning (even in the dark of the pre-dawn hours here on the West Coast).  Spirited confidence comes with both of the Luminaries trined in fire signs, our conscious and unconscious selves supporting each other and lending a joyful strength to both personal and social attitudes.  This is a time when we can feel like all is right within ourselves, and that feeling is contagious!

Which is good, because we’re going to need some joy to contend with potential crankiness caused a few hours later by the Moon in Leo opposing Mars in Aquarius.  Mars relates to our energy and drive, and is associated with aggression, ambition, and sexuality.  When Mars is at odds with the Moon, our emotions and instincts can become frustrated and hostile.  With Mars in the airy, detached realm of Aquarius, we may find that whatever is agitating us is oddly impersonal, but since air feeds fire that impersonal source isn’t likely to be any less disruptive to Leo’s fiery emotions, and may make us feel like a bonfire about to get out of control.  On the plus side, Mars is great for fueling action, so this is a good time for physical activities and exercise – a late morning workout could be the perfect way to blow off steam and redirect that fire into burning away lassitude.  Since the Moon/Mars opposition marks the beginning of a very short void-of-course period (just under an hour), it’s best not to use that energy to start anything important with, but unfinished projects in need of an energetic boost can definitely benefit.

That void-of-course period ends with the Moon entering earthy Virgo, and no other significant aspects mark the day.  The Moon in Virgo puts the focus of our instincts and emotions in a more logical space, concerned with fact-finding and problem-solving.  The Moon in Virgo is very interested in processes and components, as well as perfecting systems, but not so comfortable with actual emotions.  This means that you should be mindful of your nerves and take especially good care of your health at this time – now is the perfect time to tweak your diet and exercise routines.  It also means that this is a great time to clean, get organized, and tend to the time-consuming mundane tasks that might bore you to tears at other times.  With the Moon in Virgo you can clear away the clutter and get ready for Virgo’s ruler Mercury to station retrograde tomorrow.  The fewer distractions heading into this retrograde, the better!

Astrology of December 9th, 2016: Time to Frolic!

Today sees a full day of Lunar aspects, and while they do swing back and forth between the supportive and the potentially challenging, those influences are still well-balanced, with nothing too challenging hitting us without some cosmic support immediately coming in to ease our way through any rough spots.  Plus, those challenges help to keep the day moving, giving us the impetus to make great progress in the first half of the day and then revel in the second half if we make good use of the energy and excitement of all of these connections.

The day starts off with the Moon in Aries squaring Pluto in Capricorn, bringing our emotions and instincts up against issues of power and control.  As with all of the Lunar aspects, we may not be consciously aware that something is amiss, but under the surface we feel Pluto’s intensity pushing up against our feelings, heightening our sense of discomfort with whatever institutional forces we may be chafing against in our lives right now.  There is power in what we feel though, and while it may not be comfortable, it could still be a good impetus to get the day going, so long as we don’t succumb to road rage along the way…  😉

A supporting trine between the Moon and the Sun can smooth things over a few hours later, giving our subconscious the comfort of the Sun’s presence in enthusiastic Sagittarius to bolster our heroic instincts and bring a sense of joy to the morning.  With the Moon opposing Jupiter in short succession, that ebullience may become a bit giddy and grand, but with a trine from the Moon to serious Saturn in Sagittarius following soon after, that giddiness feels a steadying influence and gets the structure and discipline to see your grand ideals through.

The Moon conjuncting Uranus in Aries this afternoon may bring some unexpected changes, but with the Sun in Sagittarius sextiling Jupiter in Libra shortly thereafter, those changes are likely to be positive, or at the very least nothing we can’t handle, as Jupiter favors good fortune.   The combination of the two biggest gravitational forces in our solar system bringing light and luck in the social signs of Sagittarius and Libra may result in the afternoon’s productivity dissolving into the need for fun and a desire to take off for the weekend a bit early.  Given the holiday season, however, this may turn out to be right on time, and with the Moon in Aries sextiling Aries’ ruler Mars in Aquarius in the early evening, our conscious desire for fun and social activity is backed up by our emotions and our drive, so that we can’t help but want to kick up our heels and be social!  If we don’t have party plans already, now is the time to make them!  And since the Moon turns void-of-course with that Mars sextile, by the time evening rolls around there’s really nothing that should be done that can’t wait until morning, while we enjoy the best of what a night in this season can offer with friends and family.
