Today is bookended by Saturn aspects, lending an overall feeling of seriousness to the day.

The day starts out with the Moon in Virgo squaring Saturn in Sagittarius in the early morning hours, putting our emotions and instincts into conflict with our fears, insecurities, inhibitions, and limitations, and all of that within the lingering residue of last night’s Moon/Chiron opposition.

Saturn deals with time and process, process being the one area of common ground he holds with the Moon at this time, so being mindful of process may be a good way to deal with the negative emotions that may be raised by this aspect, including a tendency toward depression. Saturn also governs discipline, so some of us may instinctively throw ourselves into the day’s work as a means of combating what we feel – drowning one’s sorrows in work is a very Saturnine modus operandi. If we choose to go this route, we need to have a care not to martyr ourselves in the process, as the Moon in Virgo’s perfectionist tendencies can exacerbate Saturn’s gloomy outlook on ourselves and our situations.

The Moon turns void-of-course with this aspect, so we are likely to experience that gloominess through something of a fog, making it even more important that we utilize Saturn’s discipline to fall back on routine, tend to correcting any out-of-place details in our lives, and not try to make any drastic changes or great leaps forward until the Moon enters Libra this afternoon, two minutes after sextiling Black Moon Lilith in Scorpio. Thankfully, the sextile is a gently harmonious aspect, in this case supporting our emotions with Lilith’s focus and understanding of our frustrations.

The Moon entering Libra puts our instincts and feelings in the realm of partnership and social harmony. Both romantic relationships and business relationships are emphasized, as well as open enemies. We are likely to want more than anything for peace to prevail in our interactions with others, and need to be careful that we don’t succumb to the temptation to make doormats out of ourselves in pursuit of peace at any price.

The Moon in Libra is easily thrown out of equilibrium by disharmony, so noise, dissonance, and disruptive people and situations are likely to cause greater stress than usual, triggering the intense need to smooth things over. Of course, we are more likely to favor diplomatic means of problem-solving at this time as well, so this is a good time to endeavor to work out previously unresolvable interpersonal conflicts. Chances are that we will also take a greater interest in the arts and beauty, and will want our company and surroundings to reflect a more refined aesthetic during this time. We are more inclined toward romance now, whether in a relationship or single, and will be instinctively driven toward people and circumstances that reinforce our romantic ideals. Libra is the sign most likely to get married, after all, but it is also the sign most likely to get divorced, so now is not the time to go off the deep end over someone we’ve just met, tempting though that may be.

Luckily, the big aspect of tonight is the Sun in Aquarius sextiling Saturn in Sagittarius, giving a sense of steadiness and discipline to our consciousness, a supportive understanding of our flaws and foibles that will grow throughout the day and last into tomorrow. And since Saturn governs longevity, what we give our consciousness to tonight is likely to have lasting consequences in our social circles, especially in relation to our beliefs and ideals. This is a time to focus our attention on whatever in our lives could benefit from discipline and dedication, especially tasks that are part of a larger process. We are likely to have more patience now with both ourselves and others, and if we combine the Moon’s instinct toward partnership with our larger social consciousness tonight, we have the ability to create something that will not quickly fade.

I tend to speak in broad terms when I reference time on this blog, referring to time-frames like “morning” or “afternoon” rather than specific times, since I still have a lot of friends on the East Coast who read these posts and I’d like them to be pertinent to those friends as well as folks here on the West Coast. Readers from further abroad will need to adjust time-frames accordingly.)
