New Divinatory Art Series: Eclipse to Eclipse

| Madame Ximon

Divinatory Art for Major Transits

In keeping with Saturday’s Venus conjunction with the South Node in Virgo, I’ve returned to creating drawings in connection with my personal experiences of planetary transits. I started this divinatory art series with the Lunar Eclipse in Pisces on September 7th, in my 6th house of daily work and habits. As a result, I’ve shifted my schedule to accommodate this work: I am now making these drawings on a semi-weekly basis.

Divinatory Art: Venus Conjunct South Node in Virgo

This is the most recent piece of divinatory art in this series, with a nod to one of my favorite films, Hero, and one of my favorite actresses, Maggie Cheung.

The woman in this image offers her life experiences to her destiny, releasing what she can no longer carry that she may go forward. A spiderweb in the tree over her head represents the creative instinct – Venus is a patroness of the arts. The sigil in the waxing gibbous Moon directs us to “Leave Heartbreak in the Past.” The hooded figure in its blood-red cloak silently receives the offering. Meanwhile, the eyes of some small creature look out from the nearby tree, the wilderness bearing witness to this dance with fate.

The sigil in the Moon directs us to “Leave heartbreak in the past.” I’ve written more about this art in this public post on Patreon. There, patrons get to see the starting sketch along with some delineation of the transit. They can also access the patrons-only Discord for more parts of the process.

Divinatory art: A woman in a red hanfu stands in a clearing full of red leaves opposite a hooded figure beneath a nearly full moon, as the wind blows her hair across our view. It stirs the leaves flowing before her, like droplets of blood, as she offers her life experiences to her destiny, releasing what she can no longer carry that she may go forward. There is a spiderweb in the tree over her head. The sigil in the waxing gibbous Moon directs us to "Leave Heartbreak in the Past." The hooded figure in its blood-red cloak holds a moonlight-silvered staff and silently receives the offering. The eyes of some small creature look out from the nearby tree, the wilderness bearing witness to this dance with fate.

Divinatory Art: Solar Eclipse in Virgo

I drew the next piece of divinatory art for the Solar Eclipse in Virgo on September 21st. That eclipse opposed Saturn in Pisces and trined the TNO Arawn in Capricorn. Arawn is a Welsh otherworldly god, ruler of the kingdom of Annwn, with strong correlations to Avalon. The hounds of Annwn have associations with the Wild Hunt. Thus, I have portrayed Arawn as he calls lost souls home from Antarctica where the eclipse was most visible.

There is a sigil in the black of the Moon eclipsing the Sun. It directs us to engage the Saturnian virtue of “Patience,” in keeping with the Welsh saying:

“Hir yw’r dydd a hir yw’r nos, a hir yw aros Arawn.”

This translates roughly to: “Long is the day and long is the night, and long is the waiting of Arawn.” Of course, an otherworldly god operates on otherworldly time, not on the hasty schedule of living humans.

I’ve talked about that transit with the Astrology Star Sisters, and the transits leading into it on my previous blog post here, and have more information in the public post about it on Patreon.

Divinatory art: A ship with green sails and a feather crest bears the Welsh god Arawn and his white hound with red eyes and ears through Antarctic waters, beneath the Solar eclipse. The otherworldly god is dressed in black and red with a red and silver helm bearing a leaf-life lattice over his eyes, and he blows a white hunting horn with the Celtic triquetra symbol in silver filigree. A monkey in the ship's prow looks toward a red sigil in the blackness of the eclipse that signifies "patience." A mermaid figurehead drips with ice. A pair of emperor penguins in the lower right-hand corner of the image look on from a nearby iceberg, dwarfed by the huge figures and ship from the realm of Anwwn, the afterlife that Arawn's horn calls all lost souls home to.

Divinatory Art: Mercury Cazimi in Virgo

I drew the divinatory art prior to that for the Mercury cazimi in Virgo on September 13th. It is meant to honor civil rights activist Sister Thea Bowman. She is one of 6 Black American Catholics who have been suggested for canonization.

In this image, she wears the colours associated with the Virgin Mary, to emphasize the purity associated with Virgo. She has come to reveal the insight and inspiration to be found in fearful places, by first facing bigotry and then repudiating it. As a result of her experiences, she chooses to bring illumination to the people who might otherwise give in to their own fear and hatred.

The sigils in the idol’s eyes direct us to: “Hold to Your Oaths” and “Let Go of the Punitive.” In keeping with her mission, Sister Bowman’s lantern holds another sigil for the directive to “Illuminate.”

I’ve posted some information about the symbolism of this artwork and my experience of that Mercury cazimi in this public post on Patreon.

Divinatory art: A Black nun in a blue robe and veil with a white wimple stands holding up a lantern, facing the viewer with a slight smile. She is standing on the tongue of an ogre-like statue that resembles a giant gorilla, whose mouth is open wide behind her, revealing its sharp teeth. Within its mouth is a geode filled with myriad crystals refracting light from the lantern, creating many little rainbows inside the geode. The statue's eyes contain two golden sigils and there is another tiny sigil inside the lantern.

Divinatory Art: Lunar Eclipse in Pisces

This is the divinatory art that started this series. It was drawn in connection with the Lunar Eclipse in Pisces on September 7th. That North Node eclipse formed a Grand Water Trine Jupiter in Cancer and Lilith in Scorpio. This trine has emphasized emotional integrity and the willingness to risk alienation from some in order to align more fully with those who share our values. In connection with that courage and integrity, this configuration has brought powerful creative mojo. In turn, that has encouraged us to advocate for and align ourselves with the marginalized.

The sigils in the clouds direct us to: “Face Fear” and “Share Your Craft.” I’ve written more about this art in this public post on Patreon.

Divinatory art: A woman stands on a rock in the sea with her back to the viewer, facing a storm with clouds swirling around a Lunar eclipse and a pair of sigil illuminated in green. Sheets of silvery rain cascade in front of her, and a few stars peer down from above the clouds. Purple octopus tentacles emerge from beneath her blue dress, as her black hair blows in the wind, reflecting blood-red highlight from the eclipse overhead.

I’m not entirely sure where this practice will lead me. So far I’ve been enjoying being more fully present with these transits through the process of making each of their corresponding drawings. I’m documenting portions of the divinatory art process via Patreon, for those interested in following along. I intend to stick with this practice at least until the next series of eclipses in February and Mars. That will make for an interesting conclusion to this series: The epoch-defining Saturn/Neptune conjunction at the 0° World Point in Aries will be smack dab in the middle of that eclipse season. o.O
